Time to define One Health approaches to tackling antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a One Health problem, especially in low- and middle-income countries. To address this global public health challenge, transdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration is needed to improve environmental hygiene and address AMR and other development challenges. However, there is a lack of evidence on how AMR flows between different ecological compartments and the form of One Health solutions. This presents challenges in selecting and balancing interventions, especially when competing cases arise between antimicrobial stewardship and IPC practices in healthcare facilities and community settings.
